That Different Beat

STILL HUNGOVER FROM THE NANTS INGONYAMAs and the bagithi babas from last week's show. The Lion King's spirited singing, dancing and rich, lively costumes that filled the theatre induced an equally rich, cathartic feeling in me right from the opening number.

Back at work on a warm overcast day, I dream of Africa.

Echoing the show's color and energy, fashion from socially responsible Suno and 20th century African masks from the LACMA Collection. I can almost hear the djembes in my head.

This Fan Time

CAN'T MOVE. So hot again in Manila.

Can someone please finally explain to me why jeans, boots and other climate-inappropriate garments are not officially banned in this country?

Those Mothers, Those Cubs and Horst Klemm

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to all mothers new and old, big and small, strict and lenient, half, step and full. To mothers protective, controlling, frantic, fanatic, planned and accidental, calm and hysterical, loud and demure, confident and unsure. Blonde mothers, brunette mothers, freckled mothers, curly-haired mothers, tall mothers, short mothers, pear-shaped mothers, even mothers with hoofs, tusks, tails and trunks as pictured above by Horst Klemm.

With no good segue in mind, let me abruptly end that thought and present some other -breathtaking- wildlife shots by Klemm:

Forget Paris. Take me to Africa!
