That Somebody

ALL THE RAGE IN AUSTRALIA has been Belgian-Australian singer-songwriter Gotye, for his 2011 ARIA Single of the Year and Best Pop Release "Somebody that I Used to Know": the critically-acclaimed single for which he also bagged Best Male Artist, and featuring New Zealand singer-songwriter Kimbra, who received Best Female Artist in the same show.

Notable elements of the single are its distinguishable nursery-rhyme-like xylophone solo and fervently-sung lyrics, as well as its stop motion music video directed by Natasha Pincus.

Looking and sounding every bit indie, the track illustrates the evolved musical taste of the Australian listener, taking the song to number one for eight weeks from its release - the longest since Savage Garden's "Truly Madly Deeply" in 1997.

"I want to stand with you on a mountain. I want to bathe with you in the sea." Admit it, you still know the lyrics. Oh yes, that's one other Aussie song we used to know.
