That Môme Piaf

STANDING AT ONLY 4-FOOT-8, nervous and frail, Édith Giovanna Gassion was given the nickname La Môme Piaf for her sparrow-like appearance before eventually becoming Édith Piaf, French cultural icon and one of France's greatest singer.

Popularized in recent culture by the biographical film starring Marion Cotillard, as well as by an arresting refrain played incessantly in that mind-warped film also starring Marion Cotillard, the little singer with the big voice recurrently finds her way into my life, particularly on uninspired Saturday afternoons.

The pets seem to like it too! Must be the long, soaring notes.

La Vie En Rose lyrics and vocals by Édith Piaf.
