That Girl Interrupted

PATTERNS, TENTACLES AND A WHOLE LOT OF POLKA DOTS. Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama depicts in her art what she sees in hallucinations. Dubbed The Polka Dot Princess for her extensive use of polka dots or "infinity nets" as she calls them, Yayoi's bizarre and even vulgar works on display at the Reina Sofia popped out almost savagely against the classical resplendence of majestic Madrid.

Today, the eccentric Praemium Imperiale honoree resides by choice in a mental hospital in Tokyo where she continues to do her work since the 70's.

Art is madness indeed.
