That Forward Gaze

FEATURE:
THAT FORWARD GAZE

"HOWEVER FAR WE MAY BE, we do not forget you." reads the slogan of Korekara Japon, an initiative uniting members and friends of the Japanese community in Barcelona. Formed in Mitte Barcelona on the second anniversary of the devastation in Tōhoku, the project dedicates its programs and activities to the continuous aid of those affected by the disaster.

This year, Le Méridien Barcelona joins Korekara Japon in its forward gaze, with a photographic exhibit pooling the works of five artists: Kazumasa Horiuchi, Madoka Camigioli, Javier Ezquerra, Fidel de Tovar and Cesar Ordoñez. Portraying the co-existence of tradition and modernity in Japanese culture, as well as an overall tenderness towards the country and its people, the photographs lend a spirit of hope embodied by korekara. Translating roughly to "from now on" or "hereafter", Korekara is an invitation to keep mindful of what has passed, while looking actively to the future.

Korekara Japon is on view at Le Méridien Barcelona's CentOnze and Le Pop Bar until April 6, 2014. All proceeds from the sale of exhibited photographs will be dedicated to the rehabilitation of Tōhoku.

Presented by Le Méridien Barcelona on March 18, 2014.
