IN COMMEMORATING THE FIRST MAN ON THE MOON, I recall an event closer to home, of the Philippines' first Miss Universe victory, taking place just days before the Apollo 11 landing.
Gloria Maria Aspillera Díaz won the 1969 crown; a win attributed greatly to her natural wit during q and a. Asked how she would entertain the man from the moon if he landed in her hometown, the 18-year old beauty coolly replied "I guess since he has been in the moon so long, he would enjoy anything that an ordinary man would." Sans giggling and hesitation, Diaz's proved the best response from the top 5 bunch.
Here's to conquering moons and universes.
