That Slovanská Epopej

TAKING A BACKSEAT TO Czech artist Alphonse Mucha's Art Nouveau prints is his most epic cycle of paintings that took an epic period of 18 years to complete. Lesser known to the rest of the world than the fanciful French artworks that dominate his oeuvre, Mucha's Slav Epic depicts the history of the Czech and Slavic peoples, with careful attention to historical detail and as much accuracy as could be allowed by Mucha's personal research and diligent consults with historians.

Since completion of the cycle in 1928, The Slav Epic had been showed in Prague, New York and Chicago, been hidden away from the Nazis during the war and moved to Moravsky Krumlov after the war, where it remains today.

Take me there!
